The 2013 Communication prize

The theme of the 2013 communication prize was “Communicate Your Research”. The assignment was to write about research results within your own research area to the science interested readers of www.videnskab.dk and www.sciencenordic.com. For the first time, it was possible to hand in a contribution in English or Danish.

In collaboration with videnskab.dk, sciencenordic.com and Maja Horst, Head of Department at Department of Media, Cognition and Communication at University of Copenhagen, we found the three winning contributions. This years winners communicated scientific aspects of interest to the general public within very different areas such as mental illness, solutions for environmental water supply, and construction design in a way that was both exciting and easy to read.

The 2013 Communication prizes of 16.000 DKK, 8.000 DKK and 4.000 DKK, respectively, were awarded by Editor in chief Vibeke Hjortlund from Videnskab.dk at the ATV annual meeting held at PricewaterhouseCoopers on April 18.

The winners were:

First prize: “Fastlåste forestillinger om depression” (English version) by Jon O. J. Johansen, Lundbeck A/S and University of Aarhus.

Second prize: “Når børneleg inspirerer konstruktionsingeniører” by Niels Hørbye Christiansen, DNV Denmark A/S and DTU.

Third prize: “Er regnvand rent? Eller kan det være skadeligt” by Melanie J. Sønderup, Arwos and University of Southern Denmark.

All three winning contributions of the 2013 Communication Prize have been published at www.videnskab.dk and www.sciencenordic.com

To promote the young researchers communication skills further, the Industrial PhD Association in collaboration with the scientific journalists from videnskab.dk and sciencenordic.com had arranged a communication seminar, where the participants got feedback on their articles and insight into how researchers can catch the interest both of the general public and in their own company.
