What is the goal in life? is it “just to get by without stress?” or is it “to really be present and enjoy each and every moment of the ride?”

On March 11, 2013 the Industrial PhD Association hosted a network meeting at VTU about an industry-oriented version of Mindfullness.

Jakob Lerche Hansen, a principal scientist at Novo Nordisk A/S talked about how he uses a broad combination of “simple management strategies”, positive psychology, securing a good health, and mindfulness/meditation tools ‘tuned’ to perform at work, in his private life, and at the same time enjoy the ride.

Workshop on Split Personality - Balancing the Demands from the Company and the University

As part of the Business course the Industrial PhD Association has hosted this workshop for Industrial PhD students for several years.

The Industrial PhD Program brings together the knowledge of academia and the resources of the private sector. However, this union is not without complications and students may find themselves caught between competing interests e.g. 'publication vs. confidentiality' and 'basic research vs. commercial development.'

This workshop gave the opportunity to present and discuss these problems in small groups. Through rotation and discussions in plenum students got acquainted with the various challenges of an industrial PhD and possible solutions.
